What is a Virtual Domain?

A Virtual Domain means having your own domain name (http://www.your-name.com) without having to install expensive server hardware and software. With a Virtual Domain, you utilize our server's storage space, however you are still professionally represented via your own personal Internet web address domain name (www.your-name.com) and by your own personal e-mail address domain name (you@your-name.com).

You should check the InterNIC Whois service to make sure that your desired domain name is available.

Who is the InterNIC

The InterNIC is an independent organization responsible for holding the registration and routing of Internet domain names. Without these people it would be virtually impossible to maintain sanity on the Internet. Registration fee is $70 for the first two years and $35/year thereafter for your virtual domain name. The InterNIC will send you an invoice via email between 3 weeks to 1-1/2 months after the domain is registered.

Can I access my domain address with or without the "www"?

Yes, you will be able to access the domain address with or without the "www" in front of the domain name. Example: [http://www.your-name.com] or [http://your-name.com] is acceptable, whichever you prefer.

Can I get a 3rd level domain name such as myname.lrzone.com?

Yes you can get a cononical name with LRZone. This will allow you not to have to register a domain name with InterNIC. The price is still the same as a regular server.

What kind of machine will my server reside on?

Each server runs on a Dual Pentium Pros with 128 Megs of ram and ultra fast SCSI hard drives. We have over 30 servers on site.

What OS and Server software are you running?

Linux operating system with the Apache Webserver.

How many webservers reside on a single machine?

Each webserver houses approximately 400 servers. Take note however traffic is closely monitored to make sure no one server uses more than it's share of system resources.

What is the uptime vs. downtime?

We have a 97% uptime percentage.

What is your network connection topology?

We currently have 4 T-1s coming into 4 redundant T-3 routers.

Do you offer dial-up Internet access?

No, you will need local Internet access in order to maintain your web site and retrieve email addressed to your site. If you have questions concerning your current Internet access, and whether or not it will comply with Zone Internet's web services, please contact us via e-mail.

Does LRZone handle the domain registration process?

Yes. We will contact the InterNIC once your account is activated to request either a new domain name registration or a domain name modification (trasferring an existing domain to our servers). Please DO NOT submit a registration or modification template to the InterNIC as this will only delay the process.

Can I transfer existing domain name to LRZone's servers?

Yes, just be sure to specify that you are requesting a transfer and NOT a new domain. You should keep the service with your current provider while waiting for InterNIC to complete the transfer process. We will provide you with a temporary IP address so you can mirror the site on our server. All email and web pages will still be accessed from your current site. When InterNIC announces the completion of the transfer there is a 72 hour propagation period where visitors could go to either site. At the end of the 72 hours you should contact your previous host to have them delete the old domain from their records and update their DNS record. If you use this same provider for your Internet access you will not be able to access your domain site at LRZone until they update their DNS.

How long does it take before my domain name is active?

Once the InterNIC announces that your domain name has been registered (or transferred, if applicable), it usually takes about 72-hours before it is active. All Internet providers must update their records (DNS tables) to reflect the new site's location.

How do I transfer files to my web site ?

Files must be transferred to the web server via File Transport Protocol (FTP) or Telnet. If you need FTP, telnet, mail, or other Internet software, visit LRZone's Software Zone. The Software Zone is our customer's source for the latest Internet applications with ratings and reviews to help you decide which application is best suited for your needs.

Will I have unlimited access to update my pages ?

You have unlimited access via FTP and Telnet 24-hours a day. As such, you can create and maintain your web pages on your own computer and upload files to your web site at your leisure.

Can I use my account for commercial purposes?

Yes, you can use your account for commercial purposes. The World Wide Web has become the most efficient and cost-effective means of making information available to the users of the Internet community and we encourage our customers to utilize such an enormous medium.

Does each server have its own cgi-bin access running as something other than user nobody?

Yes.

Do you offer technical support to customers ?

Yes. We not only encourage our customers to send email to support@lrzone.com with questions or concerns regarding their web service, sometimes we'll even probe to see if you have any. We will respond to your questions promptly and courteously as possible. Don't be afraid to ask a question.

I need more than 250MB, how much is extra space?

Extra space is always available.  Please check our features for more information.

How long does it take to set up a new account ?

New accounts are generally set up within 24 hours from the time we receive your order. Once an account is set up an activation notice will be sent to you via email including your user-ID, password, and FTP hostname. You can begin uploading files to your new web site immediately. Domain account users will be given a temporary URL to access their site via the web prior to the completion of either domain registration or domain modification.

How long have the servers been up and running?

The servers have been in business for 4 years.

Can I pay a few months in advance?

Many people have asked me this question and I have decided to post it in the FAQ. Yes LRZone will allow you to pay a few months in advance. I've even had the request for up to one year. However, this will not "secure" your month to month price. LRZone will credit your account for the full term as if the price stays the same. If for some reason LRZone has to increase prices, it would then inform you of the price change and allow you to decide if you want to cancel your account. If you decide to stay with LRZone, we will then re-credit your account for the remaining time with the remaining balance that has not been used and inform you of the results.
